One of the nice things about being associated with an organization like JDRF, is that we’re not in this fundraising goal alone. Sometimes, wonderful people will contact JDRF and arrange for a volunteer opportunity that is also a fundraiser. This happened just recently, thanks to the wonderful Stephanie Shotwell and her organization, Live Joy.
As she puts it, Live Joy combines her two favorite things – shopping and giving back to the community. It’s an ingenious design, really. She purchases large pallets of goods sold at below clearance prices, and then resells those items during her monthly warehouse sales, passing along the discount to her customers. When we volunteered on April 20th, not gonna lie, we brought home quite a pile of goodies ourselves!
Not knowing how much money we were raising didn’t matter to us. We jumped right in – Broche greeted customers while Courtney went to work assembling furniture. Both of us were in our element, and in between work, we got to chat with Stephanie about all the amazing causes she’s raised money for (she chooses a different cause every month), and do a little shopping of our own.
It was a couple of weeks later that Stephanie gave us a call: she wanted to donate all the money that had been raised directly to our #TeamJetlagged fundraiser for the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes! We were floored. It’s not often you can earn $500 for your cause with just a few hours of volunteering. We’ve been incredibly lucky to meet so many generous people along this journey of ours. THANK YOU, Stephanie and Live Joy, from the bottom of our hearts!
Don’t forget to DONATE today to help us raise $11k for diabetes research during our JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes in Death Valley, CA this October 2018!
